The British government has announced a “rapid national audit” to expose Muslim grooming gangs.
In what appears to be a victory for a campaign led by Elon Musk, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced that her department would take additional steps to try and bring justice to the victims.
“Under new plans, more victims will be given the power to have their cases re-examined, allowing police forces to pursue offenders and secure justice for victims and survivors,” the Home Office wrote in a post on the X platform.

The review will be conducted by Baroness Louise Casey and is expected to be completed within three months and aims to provide a comprehensive national overview of the situation.
While the announcement stops short of a full-blown inquiry into the issue, which Musk and the likes of Nigel Farage have demanded, the move undoubtedly represents a victory for the pressure campaign exerted against the government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

According to BBC political reporter Alex Forsyth, the announcement is “clearly a shift in the government’s position.”
She explained:
The issue of grooming gangs shot up the agenda again after it emerged that the Home Office had refused a request for an inquiry from Oldham council.
Yet now the Home Secretary has agreed to provide government support for local inquiries with some funding and the expertise of the KC who led the investigation in Telford.
There’s also going to be a “rapid national audit” of the scale and nature of gang-based exploitation across the country, which will also look at the “cultural drivers”.
The government’s insisting it’s not a new national inquiry, but it has clearly decided there’s a need for further action.
The last national inquiry into grooming gangs, which concluded in 2022, determined that thousands of white British girls had been abused by Pakistani-heritage men over the past 20 years.
As well as failing to protect these vulnerable children, it also found that the police and other institutions had refused to act on reports of grooming for fear of being labeled racist.
In some cases, they even attempted to cover the crimes up so as to protect so-called community relations.
