BREAKING: Here Are the GOP Senators Who Did Not Support Matt Gaetz For Attorney General

Mitch McConnell

Here it is.

Matt Gaetz on Thursday announced he is withdrawing his nomination for US after a meeting with senators.

The Deep State and media stenographers really ramped up their attacks against Matt Gaetz since Trump nominated him for US Attorney General last week.

The New York Times on Wednesday announced it obtained a leaked document from the federal alleged sex trafficking investigation of Matt Gaetz.

The release of the leak came shortly after the House Ethics Committee decided not to release its lawfare investigation report on sham allegations of sex trafficking and sexual relations with a minor against Matt Gaetz on Wednesday.

It should be noted that Attorney General Merrick Garland did not have evidence to press charges against Gaetz.

After relentless attacks over junk allegations, Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination on Thursday.

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1,” Matt Gaetz said.

“I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the and I’m certain he will Save America,” Gaetz said.

According to MSNBC, at least 5 Senate Republicans were a hard no on Gaetz:

  • Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
  • Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
  • Susan Collins (R-ME)
  • Markwayne Mullin (R-OK)
  • Sen.-elect John Curtis (R-UT)

However, the discomfort within the Senate Republican ranks extended beyond these five. Reports indicated that at least 20, and possibly as many as 30, Senate Republicans were uneasy about the prospect of voting for Gaetz as Attorney General.

Senator Susan Collins expressed significant concerns regarding Matt Gaetz’s nomination by highlighting several “red flags” she observed. She mentioned that these issues were substantial enough to warrant serious consideration and ultimately described Gaetz’s decision to withdraw his nomination as the most prudent choice. Collins emphasized that stepping back from the process was wise, given the concerns at hand.

Chuck Grassley, a Republican Senator from Iowa, is poised to lead the Judiciary Committee. In this role, he is expected to oversee the confirmation process for nominees, including Matt Gaetz. As chair, Grassley will be responsible for guiding the committee’s discussions and hearings, influencing the decision-making process, and potentially shaping the outcome of Gaetz’s confirmation.

expressed his gratitude for Matt Gaetz’s recent endeavors in pursuing the Attorney General position. Although Gaetz was performing admirably, he decided to step aside to avoid diverting attention from the Administration, which he greatly respects. Trump commended Gaetz’s bright future and eagerly anticipates the impactful contributions he will make in the coming years.

During their meeting with Matt Gaetz, Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and John Cornyn of Texas discussed the allegations against him. Gaetz himself initiated this topic, according to Ernst. She remarked that Gaetz was open and candid during their conversation, though she withheld further details. Ernst emphasized the importance of a fair confirmation process that will be overseen by Senator Chuck Grassley, who is set to chair the Judiciary Committee. She concluded by stating that she’s withholding judgment until the process unfolds.
