Space Burials Are On The Rise

A rise in space burials has occurred in New Zealand, the UK, and the United States in recent years.

Companies such as Beyond Burial, Aura Flights, and Celestis have been blasting the ashes of family’s loved ones into space for several years and surprisingly it’s not as expensive as you think.

The company, Celestis, is based in Houston, Texas and has a space burial package that will send someone’s ashes into space and bring them back down for $2995.

In Celestis’s Earth Orbit package, they will attach a loved one’s ashes to a satellite which will then orbit around the earth for a few years.

The company Luna provides a package that will even bring ashes to the surface to the moon.

Watch how the process is done here:

Considering the national average for a regular burial is around $7,800, sending your ashes to space isn’t as expensive as you think.

So far Celestis has sent  over 1,700 ashes into space.

It’s not just the wealthy elite getting their ashes sent to space either.

John Hutton, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, had his body sent up to space last year by using the space burial company Beyond Burials.

As more burial grounds become full and land owners in local cities are unable to obtain the needed permits to operate a graveyard, space burials and cremations may be an important burial option going forward.
