CBS ‘Pausing’ All Twitter Accounts of Network and Corporate Owned Affiliates

CBS News announced Friday night it is “pausing” posting on Twitter due to “uncertainty” about the social media site recently bought by free speech advocate Elon Musk.

Reporter Jonathan Vigliotti read a network statement on the CBS Evening News broadcast Friday night, saying, “In light of the uncertainty around Twitter and out of an abundance of caution, CBS News is pausing its activity on the social media site as it continues to monitor the platform.”

A similar statement was posted by a CBS affiliate in San Francisco:

Industry insider Timothy Burke posted the ban applies to all CBS owned properties, “I’m told this applies to all CBS-owned properties. CBS News previously announced tonight it would no longer be active on Twitter (using this identical language).”

CBS News reporters appear to have also paused posting to Twitter with the exception of Catherine Herridge who posted to Twitter Saturday morning a promo for a report about the appointment of a special counsel to investigate President Trump.

Twitter has been in turmoil as Musk has sought to revamp the site and its employment structure at the same time, prompting a mass exodus of managers and workers and a failed attempt at opening verification of accounts to all who paid $8. Musk said this week that traffic at the site has hit new records.

Musk posted a photo early Saturday morning local time showing him with Twitter employees at the company’s San Francisco headquarters.
