“Sullivan typically has frequent contact with President Joe Biden but last was in contact with the president early in the week, according to a senior administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity,” New York Post reported, “Sullivan had been keeping his distance from Biden after “a couple” of people he had been in close contact with had tested positive for the virus, the official said.”
Sullivan’s Covid-19 positive result comes days after Biden’s top health officials, NIAID Director Anthony Fauci and Health Secretary Xavier Becerra, tested positive for Covid-19. Both officials were vaccinated and boosted.
On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had a heated exchange with NBC reporter Peter Alexander on the timing of Biden’s last coronavirus test, FOX News reported.
“It’s a regular cadence. That’s what we do. We will share, per CDC, when he was a close contact, and he has not been a close contact. If he was a close contact, we will let you know,” Jean-Pierre responded when asked about Biden’s recent testing schedule.
Prior to his Covid positive result, Jake Sullivan met with Foreign Minister Aïssata Tall Sall of Senegal at the White House on Friday to “discuss the devastating impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine on food security in Africa, and the need to keep global food and fertilizer markets open and functioning.”
