Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) commented on critics of the one hour delay for police to kill the Uvalde Robb Elementary School shooter, 18-year-ol Salvador Ramos, saying, “The second guessing and finger pointing among state and local law enforcement is destructive, distracting, and unfair. Complex scenarios require split second decisions. Easy to criticize with 20-20 hindsight.” 19 children and two teachers were massacred in Tuesday’s attack while officers waited in the school building for a ‘go’ order that never came. Fed up Border Patrol agents from a tactical unit reportedly went in on their own volition and killed Ramos.
There is no apparent mention on Cornyn’s Twitter feed of the children trapped in the school with the shooter who called 911 many times over the course of that deadly hour begging to be rescued by police.
Cornyn posted several tweets on the matter on Saturday:
“The second guessing and finger pointing among state and local law enforcement is destructive, distracting, and unfair. Complex scenarios require split second decisions. Easy to criticize with 20-20 hindsight…There will be plenty of time to sort this out later. Focus now should be on through investigation and lessons learned to prevent future tragedies, not finger pointing.”

In response to firearms reporter Stephen Gutowski who asked, “What is being done to hold the law enforcement officials who decided not to confront that shooter responsible for their horrendous misjudgement, Senator?”, Cornyn said, “Steve, the story has changed multiple times already, as you know. My only point we need a thorough investigation and to nail down facts before reaching a conclusion. Accountability should follow.”

Yesterday, Cornyn took time out from mourning the school children to bemoan Joe Biden’s open borders, saying that makes it harder to strike a deal in Congress for more legal immigration.
“The U.S. needs more legal immigration to meet the needs of the economy and add human talent, but no Administration in memory has done more harm to that cause than the Biden Administration. @WSJ…By sending a signal that it doesn’t want to enforce the border, it is encouraging more migrants to arrive and is undermining public support for any immigration policy compromise in Congress.”
