Schumer Spokesman Issues Statement on Supreme Court Threat, Says It Is a “Warning” on How Justices Decide Abortion Case

Justin Goodman, spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), issued a statement Wednesday afternoon regarding Schumer’s threatening comments about Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh made at a pro-choice rally in front of the Court as inside the justices heard arguments on a Louisiana abortion law case, June Medical Services LLC v. Russo.

Schumer said, “I want to tell you Gorsuch! And I want to tell you Kavanaugh! You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you! If you go forward with these awful decisions…”

Goodman statement, according to Washington Post reporter Aaron Blake, said that Schumer’s comments were a “reference to political price Rs will pay for putting them on the court and a warning that the justices will unleash major grassroots movement on the issue of reproductive rights against the decision.”

While Goodman ignores the menacing nature of Schumer’s threat, he does confirm that Schumer was indeed issuing a warning to the justices that they face consequences for how they vote on the case.

Screen shots, text and video of Schumer’s statements made at a rally at the Supreme Court organized by the Center for Reproductive Rights Wednesday morning:

Schumer gives the thumbs down as he mentions Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

Schumer turns and points at the Supreme Court building behind him and menacingly screams as he shakes his fist:

“I want to tell you Gorsuch! And I want to tell you Kavanaugh! You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you! If you go forward with these awful decisions…”

Schumer prefaced his threat noting the case being heard Wednesday was the first major abortion rights case taken up by the Court since Gorsuch and Kavanaugh joined the bench.
