Man in Hospital Mask Passes Out on Flushing, New York City Street, Eerie Similarity to Wuhan Coronavirus Videos

Video clips showing an Asian man wearing hospital mask passed out on the sidewalk in the Flushing section of Queens, New York City Tuesday afternoon were posted to Twitter, raising concerns about the coronavirus as the videos look like those from the original coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China that went viral in January and early February. Flushing is home to a large Asian community. The man, who was attended to by an ambulance team, was seen to be conscious after passing out and reportedly did not exhibit symptoms of the virus.

Google translation of comments posted with the video clips states:

“Flushing, New York, a guy walked and passed out today … I don’t know if it is related to the new coronavirus”

“What the photographer said was: There was an epidemic on Myanmar Street. Fortunately, the photographer was in the United States and in China. If it was not an epidemic, the old man would be arrested for spreading rumors. If it is an epidemic, but the Chinese government is unwilling to acknowledge the epidemic and the infection is not known to more people, the old people who took the video to talk will still be detained.”

“Rescue personnel have dealt with it and it is estimated that there will be a news broadcast tonight on the subsequent situation. I hope it has nothing to do with the epidemic.”

“According to police sources, the Asian man is about 20-25 years old. At about 1 pm on the 3rd, the man fell due to dizziness near the intersection of Flushing Main Street and Roosevelt in New York. He was then taken to the Queen’s Division of New York Presbyterian Hospital. The man wore a mask at the time of the incident and was stung by the head when he was sent to the doctor, but he was conscious and had no symptoms such as fever and cough. It has not been determined whether the man has other illnesses.”

A video from a different poster shows the victim raising his head, which tracks with the original report he was conscious.

The New York Post came under criticism for using a photo this week of Asians in Flushing to illustrate a Manhattan coronavirus case brought back from Iran.

As of Tuesday afternoon, New York state has two coronavirus cases.
