Ross Perot, a two-time presidential candidate and self-made billionaire is dead the age of 89 after a battle with leukemia, reported Dallas Morning News.
Perot was considered ‘the spoiler’ in 1992 when he jumped into the presidential race as an independent running against republican George H.W. Bush and democrat Bill Clinton.
Perot, a Texas billionaire received 19% of the vote, the largest for a third party in several decades.
The votes to Perot split the republican vote and he was blamed for Bush’s loss.
The Texas billionaire also ran for president an independent in 1996 against republican Senator Bob Dole and democrat Bill Clinton, once again acting as the spoiler and splitting the republican vote.
Perot is survived by his wife Margot, 5 children and 16 grandchildren.
