Ocasio-Cortez Now Claims U.S. Ran ‘Concentration Camps’ During World War II, Gets Hammered

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is doubling down on dumb.

On Wednesday, she claimed that the United States “ran concentration camps” during World War II.

“The US ran concentration camps before, when we rounded up Japanese people during WWII. It is such a shameful history that we largely ignore it. These camps occur throughout history. Many refuse to learn from that shame, but here we are today. We have an obligation to end them,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.

And off she went with more ignorant posts.

“Not one dime should go to DHS for building these camps as they detain children & families. Congressional appropriations season is now. That means it’s time – we‘re voting to fund federal government programs,” she wrote. “We should not fund the caging of kids & families. Pretty simple.”

And she wasn’t done.

“DHS ripped 1000s of children from their parents & put them in cages w inhumane conditions. They call their cells ‘dog pounds’ & ‘freezers.’ I will never apologize for calling these camps what they are. If that makes you uncomfortable, fight the camps – not the nomenclature,” she wrote.

The first-term lawmaker, a 29-year-old former bartender, also went on CNN to triple down on her preposterous claims.

“There is a very clear academic consensus on what constitutes a concentration camp and that is the mass detention of a community of people without a trial or due process,” the New York Democratic socialist told CNN’s Manu Raju on Tuesday. “I think it’s pretty universally not controversial to say that the administration is doing exactly that and meets the academic requirement for what a concentration camp is.”

“While concentration camps were employed, during that time concentration camps were also utilized all over the world including in the United States, with the Japanese internment,” she added.

On Monday, she said President Trump “has established concentration camps on the southern border.”

“This administration has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying. This is not hyperbole. It is the conclusion of expert analysis,” she wrote on Twitter, citing a magazine article.

Ocasio-Cortez also took to Instagram to make the same allegations in her rambling, Valley-girl speak.

“The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border and that is exactly what they are,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “They are concentration camps. And, um, if that doesn’t bother you, I don’t, I don’t know, I, like, we can have, OK, whatever,” she said, waving her hands and shrugging her shoulders.

“I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity to say that we should not — that ‘Never Again’ means something, and that the fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the home of the free is extraordinarily disturbing, um, and we need to do something about it,” she said. “This week, children, uh, immigrant children were moved to the same internment camps where the Japanese were held in, in the early, in the earlier 20th century. And this is, um, this is not even about a crisis for, this is not just about the immigrant communities being held in concentration camps being a crisis.”

“This is a crisis for ourselves. This is a crisis on if America will remain America on its actual principles and values or if we are losing to an authoritarian and fascist presidency,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And so I think that that is, um, you know, I don’t use those words lightly. I don’t use those words to just throw bombs. I used that word because that is what an administration that creates concentration camps is.”

People who know history have been hammering AOC for her ignorance. “Please @AOC do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history. 6 million Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust. You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this,” tweeted Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), the third-ranking House Republican.

“This is wrong @AOC. These are incredibly dangerous and disgusting words that demean the millions murdered during the Holocaust,” tweeted Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).

And Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) also fired back. “Clearly I need to explain that, in concentration camps, people are unjustly sought out and confined. This isn’t what is happening at the border,” Crenshaw wrote on Twitter.

“Your comments reveal total disregard for our sovereignty & a deep ignorance that belittles the horrors of the Holocaust,” Crenshaw added.
