Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said that he “authorized the transfer of $1.5 billion toward the construction of more than 80 miles of border barrier

In March, Shanahan approved a transfer of $1 billion to help build 60 miles of border wall.

The total of $2.5 billion of relocated Defense Department funds is in response to President Trump’s declaration of a ‘national emergency’ at the southern border.

Shanahan said that the Pentagon is “fully engaging” in fixing the crisis at the border.

Shanahan said that the more than 4,000 troops that are stationed on the southern border will not “leave until the border is secure.”

The Pentagon is expected to shift another $3.6 billion from military construction to be used for building the wall, but those plans have not been confirmed.
