Here We Go-> Democrat-Led House Judiciary Committee Launches Investigation Into President Trump’s National Emergency Declaration

Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY)

The Democrat-led House Judiciary Committee announced Friday it launched an investigation into President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the southern border.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) sent a letter signed by fellow Committee Democrats to President Trump Friday, citing his statement made in a presser, “I didn’t need to do this, but I would rather do it much faster.”

Nadler and other Dems on the House Judiciary Committee requested an immediate hearing with DOJ officials and White House counsel, Pat Cipollone so they may “understand both substantive rationale and legal justification” for Trump’s “unilateral declarations.”

“We believe your declaration of an emergency shows a reckless disregard for the separation of powers and your own responsibilities under our constitutional system,” Nadler wrote.

President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency is completely lawful. If Congress has a problem with the President declaring national emergencies, they should change the existing laws.

Existing laws allow the president of the United States to reprogram existing appropriations for certain purposes.

President Trump declared a national emergency Friday citing cartel violence, human trafficking and drug trafficking to access funds to build the border wall.

The President said Friday that he expects the 9th Circuit Court to challenge his emergency declaration which of course will then end up in the Supreme Court.

US Presidents declaring national emergencies is nothing new, only the outrage is.
