Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Explains Her Rationale for Confiscatory Tax Rates: Take Money From Billionaires Because They’re ‘Making Tons of Money’ Underpaying Their Workers

Perhaps she can show us where the “they don’t pay their workers enough so we have to tax the wealthy” clause is in the Constitution. Or perhaps she read about it in a socialist tract left in a barroom bathroom where she worked.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), the 29-year-old former bartender and rising communist star of the Democratic Party, lectured 51-year-old former two-term Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) on marginal tax rates, in the process revealing the communist nature of her politics.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Walker had posted to Twitter Tuesday morning, “Explaining tax rates before Reagan to 5th graders: “Imagine if you did chores for your grandma and she gave you $10. When you got home, your parents took $7 from you.” The students said: “That’s not fair!” Even 5th graders get it.”

Walker did not go in depth with the 5th graders to explain marginal rates, but he was making the point of the unfairness of government taking 70 percent of someone’s income, which was the top marginal rate that Reagan persuaded a divided Congress to reduced to 28 percent. The top rate, reduced by President Trump and a Republican House and Senate in 2017 from the Obama era high of 39.6 percent over $400,000, is now 37 percent over $500,000.

Ocasio-Cortez has proposed returning to the pre-Reagan 70 percent marginal rate, with a threshold of $10 million, as part of a “Green New Deal.”

Ocasio-Cortez replied to Walker, “Explaining marginal taxes to a far-right former Governor: Imagine if you did chores for abuela & she gave you $10. When you got home, you got to keep it, because it’s only $10. Then we taxed the billionaire in town because he’s making tons of money underpaying the townspeople.”

Ocasio-Cortez follow-up with a video clip of herself explaining her communist rationale for high marginal tax-rates, “income inequality.”
