Organizer of Migrant Caravan Detained After President Trump Threatens to Cut U.S. Aid to Honduras, Guatemala

President Trump meant business when he issued a strong warning to Honduran President Hernandez Tuesday over the migrant caravan marching northbound to United States.

So far, the President’s warning seems to be working because the organizer of the caravan, Bartolo Fuentes was detained in Guatemala Tuesday.

Guatemalan police officers detained Bartolo Fuentes, a former Honduran lawmaker, from the middle of the large crowd that he and three other organizers had led from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, since Saturday, Reuters reported.

Fuentes is reportedly being deported back to Honduras according to the Honduran security minister.

The migrant caravan has splintered into smaller groups in order to be able to pass through Guatemala undetected, however; according to authorities some of the migrants turned around and headed back to Honduras.

Honduran migrants are still marching northbound, however; it is unclear how many people continue to trek to the U.S.

The Associate Press reported Wednesday that the Hondurans were spotted in Chiquimula, Guatemala marching through rain, determined to make it the Mexican border.

On Monday, the migrant caravan, dubbed “March of the Migrant,” DOUBLED IN SIZE as it crossed through the Guatemalan border on its way to Mexico where they will head northbound to the United States.

According to Reuters, up to 3,000 migrants crossed from the Honduras into Guatemala after a standoff with police in riot gear Monday.

President Trump didn’t even wait until the caravan of Hondurans reached Mexico before issuing a very stern warning to the Honduran president on Tuesday threatening to cut U.S. aid immediately!

The President’s fury continued into late Tuesday evening as he fired off another pair of tweets putting Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador on notice.

Anyone entering illegally will be arrested and detained prior to being sent back to their country, President Trump said.
