Report: Christine Blasey Ford Wants Kavanaugh Barred From Hearing Room When She Testifies

The lawyer for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford has told the Senate Judiciary Committee her demands for her public testimony at a hearing–preeminent is that Judge Brett Kavanaugh testify first and that he not be allowed to be in the hearing room when she testifies.

The Washington Post’s Seung Min Kim reported on Twitter about a call between Ford’s attorney Debra Katz and staff on the Judiciary Committee. Ford has accused–without corroborating evidence–Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a drunken high school pool party decades ago.

“Some NEWS on a call that Katz, the attorney for Ford, had with Judiciary earlier as they negotiate terms of hearing next week, per senior Senate source — Katz raised concerns about security and how to ensure Ford’s safety
–Katz raised concerns about potential outside counsel…(bringing in an outside counsel would make it too trial-like, they believe) –Ford does NOT want Kavanaugh in the room when she testifies, and she asked that Kavanaugh testify first –Raised prospect of subpoena for Mark Judge and other potential witnesses”

“Oh! One more tidbit from the call. They are discussing Thursday as a potential hearing date but that is not yet locked down”

Fox News reporter/anchor Shannon Bream confirmed the report, “SOURCES: Ford team wants NO questions from lawyers, only Qs from Committee members, #Kavanaugh cannot be in the room, Kavanaugh must testify FIRST – more to come …”

Laura Ingraham also reported the scheduled Monday hearing where Kavanaugh and Ford were invited to testify may be postponed. Kavanugh accepted but Ford has declined so far to appear Monday.

“Two sources have told me that @SenateMajLdr is WAVERING and may ask to further delay Monday hearing. GOP base will be in full revolt if so. Tune in tonight!”

Ford has been preparing since August to air her accusation against Kavanaugh, hiring a Hillary Clinton fundraiser, Katz, for her attorney and taking a polygraph examination. She met with Congresswoman, Rep. Anna Eshoo D-CA) for about ninety minutes on July 20, according to Eshoo and then sent a letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) about the accusation but claimed she wanted it to be confidential. News of Ford’s letter and accusations leaked out after the hearings and private questioning of Kavanaugh had been completed and a committee vote scheduled. Ford then spoke on the record to the Washington Post.

UPDATE: NBC News adds a few more details on Ford’s demands: “Ford’s requests made by her attorney, per NBC News:
-Hearing Thurs. earliest -Kavanaugh testifies first -Kavanaugh not in room when she is -no outside counsel for questioning -subpoena Mark Judge -no time limit on her opening stmt -pool camera only -movement plan for security”
