Momentum Builds To Appoint Second Special Counsel To Investigate Hillary Clinton’s Ties To Steele Dossier

A new report shines a light on the growing momentum to appoint a second special counsel to probe Hillary Clinton’s ties to the Steele dossier.

Washington Free Beacon reports:

Momentum is building on Capitol Hill for the Trump administration to reopen an investigation into former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her connections to an anti-Trump dossier that served as the basis for an ongoing investigation into President Trump and collusion with Russia during the 2018 election, according to lawmakers who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.

As the Department of Justice investigation into claims Trump colluded with Russia drags on, a delegation of Republican members of Congress led by Rep. Lee Zeldin (N.Y.) is pressuring the DOJ to appoint a second special counsel to investigate why the FBI dropped its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state, as well as further information that her supporters in the FBI may have targeted Trump in an effort to undermine his candidacy.

The lawmakers maintain that new evidence discrediting the anti-Trump dossier—which was assembled by the opposition research firm Fusion GPS on the Clinton campaign’s behalf—warrants the appointment of a new special counsel that would be tasked with investigating FBI bias and unwarranted spying on Trump associates.

Calls to name a second special counsel come despite Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointing federal prosecutor John Huber to probe FISA abuse by the FBI and DOJ.

Reacting to the news, Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton called Sessions’ announcement a “major fail,” by the Justice Department.

“Major fail from DOJ! AG Sessions writes he tasked a lawyer to investigate whether to investigate the Clinton/Obama abuses! No wonder @RealDonaldTrump is frustrated,” Fitton tweeted.

Up to now, we know the Clinton campaign was involved in obtaining the dossier, as Hillary Clinton herself admitted to paying for the opposition research on “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah.

The New York Post‘s Paul Sperry reported that Clinton had “contractual control,” over how the dossier was disseminated.

“DNC & Hillary Clinton campaign had contractual control over how the product they paid for was used & disseminated. That means Simpson & Steele had to first consult with Clinton campaign lawyers before taking the dossier to the FBI & to the media. Ergo, Hillary coordinated FBI hit,” tweeted Sperry.
