#FAKENEWS MSNBC’s Joy Ann Reid Falsely Blames US Pacific Command for Bogus Hawaii Missile Alert

MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid falsely accused the U.S. Pacific Command for the government of Hawaii’s bogus incoming missile alert issued Saturday morning. The alert was actually sent by a state employee who hit the wrong button, according to Governor David Ige who spoke with CNN.

Joy Ann Reid, host of MSNBC’s AM Joy.

Reid made the false accusation in a tweet Saturday afternoon.

“Ok what just happened in Hawaii via the mistake by the U.S. Pacific Command is terrifying. Especially now. My God…”

In reality Pacific Command issued a statement declaring the alert was sent in error, tweeting out a statement about thirty minutes after the alert was sent.

“U.S. Pacific Command has detected no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii. Earlier message was sent in error. State of Hawaii will send out a correction message as soon possible.”

Ten minutes after Reid falsely accused Pacific Command she tweeted out a CNN report that the mistake was made by a state employee, “HI Gov tells CNN “It was a mistake made during a standard procedure at the change over of a shift and an employee pushed the wrong button,”

A news search shows no alert was sent by Pacific Command and that the only alert was sent by Hawaii. As of this report Reid has not posted a correction nor an apology to Pacific Command.

UPDATE: Reid posted a correction about 45 minutes after this article was published, “CORRECTION: this was apparently not an issue of Pacific Command. It was a system failure at the state level.”

That took about two hours. And almost also hours after Reid retweeted that the Hawaii governor said a state employee was responsible.
