UPDATE: Teen Afghan Refugee Yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ Before Ax Attack on Passenger Train in Wurzburg, Germany

The terrorist who wielded an ax to attack passengers on a train in Wurzburg, Germany was identified by Bavaria’s Interior Minister as a 17 year-old Afghan refugee. An early report says witness evidence indicates an Islamist motivation for the attack. The terrorist was reported shot and killed by police.

Three passengers were reported to be seriously wounded by police with another lightly wounded. An additional 14 passengers were reported in shock.

A translation of a report from the Main Post stated police reporting three seriously wounded.

“According to the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is the offender is a 17-year-old Afghan.”

“…The perpetrator was shot, which confirmed a spokesman for the Bavarian interior ministry in Munich. The act took place, according to police spokesman Philipp Hümmer to 21:00 on the train from Treuchtlingen to Würzburg. A gunman attacked by train. He carried a knife and an ax. The train entered a unscheduled stop in Heidingsfeld. Three passengers were seriously, one slightly injured. 14 are in shock. The perpetrator fled the train and was shot while fleeing from emergency services…”

The France24 report states the attacker was believed to have acted alone. And that the teen Afghan refugee had been living with a German foster family for the past two weeks. Before that he had been in refugee housing after arriving in Germany unaccompanied.
