Flagship website was offline for more than an hour Tuesday afternoon, the second major outage at the website in the past two weeks.
Representatives for Times Co. weren’t immediately available for comment.
Earlier this month, the company said an internal glitch was responsible for a multihour outage of the website, nytimes.com.
Such outages recently have prompted speculation about attacks by hackers. A day after the Times Co.’s prior outage, a hacker group calling itself the Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for a cyberattack that affected news sites, including those from the Washington Post and CNN.
The tweet on the New York Times account said the site was experiencing technical difficulties. A follow-up tweet said “we will continue to publish then news” and included a link to coverage of Syria on a stripped down website
