Government Shutdown Averted…  Congress Strikes A Deal–
Congress made a deal tonight to prevent a government shutdown.
Fox News reported:

DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

UPDATE:  Senate Passes Short-Term Funding Deal to Avert Shutdown.

House members were called into session tonight to vote on the Short Term Funding bill to keep the federal machinery running for the next several days.

They reportedly agreed to cut about $38 billion in federal spending. Republican attempts to curtail the reach of the Environmental Protection Agency were rebuffed.  Attempts to deny federal funds to Planned Parenthood were sidetracked.

However, anti-abortion lawmakers did succeed in winning a provision to ban the use of federal or local government funds to pay for abortions in the District of Columbia.
