Senate Candidate & Obama Pal Giannoulias Did Not Pay Taxes; Received $30K Refund for Failed Bank

Illinois State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Alexi Giannoulias did not pay taxes last year but received $30,000 tax refund for his failed Broadway Bank.
The Examiner reported, via Free Republic:

Illinois State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Alexi Giannoulias did not have to pay his state and federal taxes this year due to losses incurred from the failure of his Broadway Bank. Giannoulias’ campaign released his financial information on Friday.

Giannoulias is set to receive $30,000 in tax refunds because of his bank’s failure. The Treasurer has said that all of that money is going to be donated to charity.

The Broadway Bank had been largely forgotten in the race for U.S. Senator, but the release of Giannoulias’ financial records seems to have dredged it up once more. Giannoulias owned a portion of the Broadway Bank, which was caught giving loans connected to various crimes. The bank was seized by regulators in April of this year.

Representative Mark Kirk and his campaign, no doubt tired of being dogged about his fabricated military record, has pounced on this issue.

In a statement released on Friday, Kirk’s campaign said, “Giannoulias wants to raise our taxes but doesn’t pay any taxes himself.”
