The Exalted One spaketh this morn on Day 15 of the First Year of AB:
President Barack Obama says his decision to close the Guantanamo prison “will make us safer” and ensure that the government is upholding legal guarantees under the U.S. justice system.
In an interview aired Monday on NBC’s “Today” show, Obama says his decision to close the military prison at the U.S. naval base in Cuba was driven by his attempts to balance “what’s going to keep the American people safe” and constitutionally guaranteed rights for those imprisoned.
And, it was good.
Of course it will make America safer. Heck, only 61 of the prisoners returned to a life of terror.
Former Gitmo detainee Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi recently exploded in Iraq.
Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi was released from Gitmo in November 2005.
The Washington Post reported that Ajmi left a lengthy martyrdom audio recording before his death. Ajmi implored people to take part in suicide bombings and to attack Americans. He blew himself up in Mosul in the summer of 2008 and was able to take a few Iraqis with him.
Dear Leader also wants to give “constitutionally guaranteed rights” to those foreign jihadists captured in Afghanistan or Somalia or Iraq.
It’s in the US Constitution.
