Iran hangs another man in a public stadium!
ADN Kronos reports:
Tehran, 15 Jan. (AKI) – A young man only identified as Abbas on Monday was hanged in the stadium of Nour, in the northern Iranian Mazanderan region. It is the second time in two months that a convict has been executed in a stadium – a practice widely used by Afghanistan’s Taliban regime, which was ousted by the United States in late 2001.
Iran, second in a world ranking of countries with the highest number of executions per year after China, has already executed at least eleven people since the beginning of 2007.
Meanwhile a human rights group based in Ahwaz, in the southern Iranian oil producing region of Khuzistan, released the identities of seven independentist activists who have been sentenced to death.
Ahwaz.org has more on the planned executions in southern Iran in the coming days:
The names of the seven men at imminent risk of execution are reported as Ghasem Salami, Mohammad Lazem Kaabpour, Abdolamir Farjolah Kaab, Alireza Asakereh, Majad Albughbish, Abdolreza Sanawati, and Khalaf Dohrab Khanafereh.
The UN Human Rights Commission is even speaking out against the planned executions.
Do you suppose Matthew Parris will defend this, too?
