Joshua Stanton adds this about the refugees:
The refugees came all the way through China, via an underground railroad run by Christian missionaries. They go by bus, train, truck, and on foot. One missionary drowned in the Mekong last year. Many refugees are arrested along the way and sent back through China. If the Chinese catch them, they run cables through the refugees’ wrists and bus them straight to the North Korean gulag. Unfortunately, it seems that parts of it appear to have been compromised.
