Beating a Dead Horse

This pony ain’t moving!

Ouch!!! Even though French President Chirac and German Chancellor met this weekend to push for more ratification, the British are scrapping the idea of a vote on the EU Constitution next spring already calling the referendum dead on arrival:

UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw is preparing to tell MPs the government has shelved plans for a referendum next spring on the European constitution.
It comes after “No” votes in France and the Netherlands which analysts said had effectively killed the treaty.

However, French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder have urged other EU countries to continue the ratification process.

EU leaders are preparing for a summit next week to discuss how to proceed.
