In Kathmandu, Nepal:
“We appeal to democracy lovers, the public and civil society to join our movement that condemns the king’s unconstitutional and undemocratic royal proclamation of Feb. 1,” said a statement distributed by the protesters. Though the numbers were small, it was the first time opposition parties put together a serious demonstration against the king’s move. Elsewhere across the city, police armed with tear gas and bamboo batons were deployed to block similar protests.
