Rep. Andy Biggs: Kevin McCarthy Will Not Win Speakership on First Vote – Several Republicans Have Excellent Resumes to Win (VIDEO)

On Wednesday Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) was a guest on The Briefing with Steve Scully, on SiriusXM satellite radio. Rep. Biggs spoke with host Steve Scully about challenging Rep. Kevin McCarthy to become Speaker of the House.

Republicans are set to pick McCarthy for Speaker, a GOP insider, when the country needs courageous leadership at this time to survive.

Andy Biggs says it is “specious” to think kevin McCarthy is the only Republican who can become Speaker.

Rep Andy Biggs: There are a lot of very qualified individuals. Some have actually been kind of sniffing around, as well. And I can’t say their names for the same reason, because you don’t want them to be marked. I mean, right now I’m the marked guy and everybody’s beating me like a drum. And that’s okay. But I think that people need to understand the argument that it’s only Kevin McCarthy, only Kevin McCarthy can do this, is specious. Because we have a lot of talent, a lot of very bright people, a lot of very successful people in business, a lot of people who’ve had legislative experience. I, myself, was the Senate president in Arizona for four years, and I know what it’s like to try to herd the cats that a legislative body is. I think there’s a lot of good people who could come in there that I could work with. That both the more moderate side and the more conservative side of our conference can work together.  I think there are more things that hold us together than divide us, but I just don’t think that the American people are going to be content with us just sitting on our hands, which unfortunately has been the pattern we’ve seen from leader McCarthy over the last 12 years since he’s been in leadership.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) also said Kevin McCarthy will not win the speakership on the first vote.

REP. ANDY BIGGS: Well, I have quiet support. I mean, we have enough so that, certainly on the first ballot, Mr. McCarthy won’t be elected Speaker. A lot of people have come up to me quietly and they’re concerned because, you know, if he does become the Speaker, they don’t want to be out there because they’re afraid of retribution, that type of thing, which is fair and I understand that, butI cannot tell you how many people have come up to me and indicated their appreciation for my contest to the Speakership race.
