Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur said that even Democrats and independents are watching Fox News.
In a Twitter thread, he called Fox News programming “interesting” — and pointed out that CNN and MSNBC are just “milquetoast corporate propaganda.”
A majority of independents watch @FoxNews. Very few watch @CNN or @MSNBC (less than a quarter). Fox News even has 3 out of the top 4 most watched cable news show – for Democrats! Why? Because they do interesting programming, while the others do milquetoast corporare propaganda.
Fox may be crazy, but they’re a wild ride. If the other channels put on hosts who fought back or were passionate about the news they cover, they might get an audience, too. But they remove all progressives who might do that from their air. And boring is all they’re left with.
Uygur’s tweet is backed up by the data.
In October of 2021, Tucker Carlson got 42% of Democrats aged 25-54 – this was higher than CNN and MSNBC. Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and The Five ranked in the top four cable news programs with Democrats.
Fox News also dominated among younger independents.
Everybody knows Fox News draws Republicans the way mashed potatoes attracts gravy, but new viewership data from Nielsen MRI Fusion (written up in The Wrap, Forbes, The Hill and elsewhere) shows that the conservative outlet’s audience includes oodles of self-described younger Democrats. In October, The Wrap reports, Tucker Carlson’s primetime show was the top-rated news show among Democrats between 25-54. “In total-day viewership, Fox News grabbed 42 percent of Democrats aged 25-54, CNN nabbed 33 percent, and MSNBC got 25 percent,” The Wrap’s Lindsey Ellefson wrote. Tucker Carlson Tonight, Hannity and The Five ranked in the top four cable news programs with Democrats in the total viewer category.
Fox News also pulls in independents. The Nielsen data says that 58 percent of younger independents watch Fox during total-day hours, while only 25 percent tune in to CNN and just 18 percent choose MSNBC.
Fox News crushed CNN and MSNBC in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and was the most-watched network.
During primetime hours they averaged 2.2 million viewers while MSNBC only averaged 1.3 million. CNN was even lower averaging only 717,000 – they didn’t even make the top 5.
Fox News Channel finished the third quarter of 2022 as cable’s most-watched network among both total and primetime viewers as Americans tuned in for information and analysis during a busy news cycle that featured everything from ongoing economic woes to the FBI raid of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.
The busy quarter also included continued coverage of the war in Ukraine, the death of Queen Elizabeth and around-the-clock political news. Fox News averaged 1.4 million total day viewers during the quarter, crushing No. 2 MSNBC’s average viewership of 783,000 as CNN, ESPN and HGTV also landed in the top five. It was the sixth straight quarter that Fox News finished No. 1 in the category, airing 94 of the top 100 telecasts in cable news along the way.
During the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m., Fox News dominated with 2.2 million average viewers to outdraw MSNBC and CNN combined. MSNBC averaged 1.3 million, followed by ESPN, HGTV and Hallmark. CNN settled for a primetime average of only 717,000 and failed to crack the top five as Fox News was the highest-rated cable news network during primetime for the 83rd straight quarter.
Even Democrats know CNN and MSNBC are fake news!
