Three Dutch soldiers were shot outside a hotel in Indiana while in the United States for a military training exercise.
The shooting took place on Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis.
The Dutch Ministry of Defense said in a statement that one of the soldiers is in critical condition, while the other two are “conscious and approachable,” according to a report from Newsweek. However, the Indianapolis Police Department said that two of the soldiers were in critical condition and the third was stable,” the Associated Press reports.
“Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported the three victims to an area hospital. Two of the victims are listed in critical condition and the third victim is listed in stable condition,” the department said.
The Ministry of Defense said that the shooting took place during the soldiers’ free time and that their families have been informed.
“The shooting took place in front of the hotel where the commandos are staying. They are in the state of Indiana on exercise. The incident happened during the military’s free time,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement. “The families of the victims have been informed. Local police are investigating the cause of the shooting. No one has been arrested yet.”
The Indianapolis Police told Newsweek that they do not believe that the shooting was random and that there is “no immediate threat to the area.”
The soldiers are said to be part of the Dutch Commando Corps.
According to the Associated Press report, the Indianapolis Police believe that the shooting was the result of an altercation between the three victims and another person or people.
No arrests have been made at this time.
