28-Year-Old American National Reportedly Dies Suddenly in a Shopping Mall in Mérida, Mexico

A 28-year-old man was reported to have died suddenly inside a shopping mall that is located on the eastern side of Merida City, Mexico on August 7, according to the authorities.

According to the Yucatan Times, the unidentified young man was American.

The incident took place inside the commercial plaza “El Patio” (formerly known as “Plaza Sendero”), according to a report from local news outlet Diario de Yucatan.

“An intense mobilization of security personnel and paramedics was recorded in a shopping center in the east side of Merida, due to the sudden death of a person who was apparently of foreign origin,” according to the outlet.

According to witnesses he suddenly fainted. The young man was sitting at a table in a restaurant known as Tacos City Café when he suddenly fainted and began to convulse.

The staff at the location quickly dialed the emergency services hotline.

“[Translated] In a matter of minutes, paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the place to assess the subject, and confirmed that he did not have vital signs,” the outlet reported.

“Agents of the police corporation cordoned off the area awaiting the staff of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for the development of the corresponding investigations, as well as the demarcation of responsibilities.

“The Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) carried out the removal of the body and, so far, the authorities have not reported the identity of the deceased person,” Diario de Yucatan reported.
