Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies won’t be able to play in Canada’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers after he was diagnosed with mild myocarditis.
Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann revealed that Alphonso Davies developed a mild sign of myocarditis after he returned from training following a period of isolation. Davies’ contracted COVID-19 and has not played since December.

“Yesterday, during our follow-up examination that we do with every player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle,” says Nagelsmann in a news conference. “He has stopped training for now, so he won’t be available to us for the next weeks,” he added.
Nagelsmann also revealed that based on the ultrasound findings, Davies’ myocarditis wasn’t “so dramatic” but it would still needs time to heal.
“This myocarditis isn’t too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of an inflammation. Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time.”
Some mainstream media reported that Davies’ myocarditis was from his COVID-19.
It is believed that Alphonso Davies is fully vaccinated. Last November, Bild revealed Bayern Munich’s five unvaccinated players, and Davies wasn’t one of them. And on December, another report confirmed that all Bayern Munich’s players were vaccinated.
