The Seattle Police Department is preparing to fire as many as 400 unvaccinated officers if they do not give in to the city’s strict vaccine mandate that will begin on October 18th.
The department is facing the tough decision to let go almost 40% of its officers despite already having a crisis-level staff shortage that has left the city increasingly unprotected against a massive surge in crime.
Hundreds of officers have left the department over the past year thanks to massive budget cuts and radical anti-police policy that has been enacted by crazed leftists that are in charge of legislation for the state.
Now, hundreds more face termination because they have not taken the experimental jab.
Almost 40% of active SPD officers (403 out of 1,080) could be affected by the mandate. As of Friday, 292 of them had not turned in their proof of vaccination, and 111 more are waiting on their vaccine exemption requests to be processed.
At 1,080, the number of available officers is lower than it has been since the 1980’s. To put the issue into perspective, according to KKTH, there are as few as 70 officers patrolling the streets on a nightly basis.
If 403 more are let go because of the mandate, Seattle will have a total of 677 police to patrol its population of more than 724,000 people.
In an email that was sent to unvaccinated officers by radical-leftist Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkin, she shamelessly claims that she “values” each one of them despite creating a violent anti-police climate that forced hundreds of officers to resign over the past year.
There is no shortage of morally bankrupt hypocrites on the left, that’s for sure.
“Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan told city staff in an email on Monday that she values ‘each of you, and do not want to lose you as employees.’
She enforced her mandate by writing: ‘The people that count on you the most are the ones that need you to get vaccinated.'”
In preparation for the mass firing, SPD Chief Adrian Diaz has already warned officers to be ready for a ‘Stage 3 Mobilization’ that will go into effect on October 13. The emergency action, which was detailed in an internal memo that was uncovered by Fox 13, will put any remaining officers on standby at all times to respond to 911 calls.
According to Seattle city guidelines: ‘While under the stage 3 mobilization, every sworn member of the department shall be in their class A/B uniform for the duration of their shift. Those members who are in non-patrol units shall be prepared to immediately report to one of the five precincts for 911 call response.’
There are 4 stages of emergency response in Seattle, Stage 3 is the second-highest and is used specifically for a crisis where authorities cannot maintain public order. The only stage higher – stage 4 – would be considered a full-blown state of emergency.
With the way violent crime has been surging in the city amid the current staffing shortage, Seattle may be on the verge of a stage 4 emergency. The city is already on track to shatter last year’s homicide rate, which was also a record high.
