Fears Grow of Riot or Stampede at Border Detention Camp in Del Rio, Texas as Thousands of Migrants Cross Rio Grande Daily; Democrat Mayor Begs Biden for Help

The Democrat mayor of Del Rio, Texas said Friday that fears are growing of a riot or stampede at the makeshift outdoor migrant detention camp under the International Bridge. The number of migrants has swelled to over 12,000 with thousands arriving every day taking the short walk across the Rio Grande from Mexico. Border Patrol agents have also reportedly expressed fears of a stampede as daily temperatures hover around 100 degrees.

KENS-TV reporter Vanessa Croix reported on the mayor’s concerns, “EXCLUSIVE video inside the migrant encampment in Del Rio @CityofDelRio Mayor Lozano said the numbers are rising, conditions are dire, and there’s fear of a stampede or riot Latest count: over 12,000”

MRC’s Jorge Bonilla posted a Univision report Thursday on Border Patrol agents’ concerns of a stampede, “Univision reports that the Border Patrol is fearful of getting overrun in a “human stampede” at Del Rio. Is this at least part of the rationale behind the FAA’s shutdown of drone overflights?” (Note FAA granted Fox News a drone permit Friday.)

Late Thursday night, Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano, a Democrat, posted an appeal for help to Joe Biden, “Good evening from Del Río, TX. 10,503 (as of 6:45pm, September 16, 2021) migrants under the Del Río International Bridge. This morning we started at 8,200. President Biden, have you been briefed on the ongoing crisis yet?…President Biden, for reference, 10,503 people is inching close to 1/3 of the population of Del Rio, Texas.”

Lozano told reporters Friday the migrnats are getting “pretty aggressive, rightly so”, “Dire circumstances require dire responses,” Del Río Mayor Bruno Lozano said. “There’s people having babies down there [under the bridge], there’s people collapsing out of the heat. They’re pretty aggressive, rightly so — they’ve been in the heat day after day after day.”
