The Justice Department’s top national security official resigned after it was revealed Trump’s DOJ investigated House Dems and subpoenaed communication records.
According to the New York Times, the DOJ under Trump subpoenaed Apple for data from Democrat House Intelligence committee members and aides in their hunt for leakers.
The DOJ also seized records from Trump’s White House counsel Don McGahn and his wife.
The records were seized in 2017 and 2018 but prosecutors were unable to tie anyone to leaks.
John Demers will leave his post by the end of the week, the Associated Press reported.

John Demers will leave his position by the end of next week, a Justice Department official told The Associated Press on Monday. The official could not discuss the matter publicly and spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity.
A second person familiar with the matter said Demers had planned for weeks to leave the department by the end of June. He was sworn in a few weeks after the subpoena for the Democrats’ records. He is one of the few Trump appointees who has remained in the Biden administration.
