Governor Hutchinson called the bill a “vast government overreach.” and referred to it as a “product of the cultural war in America.”

“While in some instances the state must act to protect life, the state should not presume to jump into the middle of every medical, human, and ethical issue,” he said.

The Arkansas state legislature on Tuesday voted to override Governor Hutchinson’s veto.

The House voted 71-24, and the Senate 25-8, to override the governor’s veto

“These children need to be protected,” Republican Rep. Robin Lundstrum, the lead sponsor of the bill, said on Monday according to the Associated Press.
