Virginia’s Voter Registration System Goes Down on Final Day to Register to Vote Due to Severed Fiber Optic Cable

Virginia’s voter registration system went down on Tuesday, the last day to register to vote in the state.

Virginia’s Department of Elections said they were alerted after a fiber cut near the Commonwealth Enterprise Solutions Center was impacting data circuits and VPN connectivity for multiple agencies.

“This has affected the citizen portal along with registrar’s offices.”

Virginia’s Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax (D) called for the voter registration deadline to be extended.

Recall, Virginia’s voter registration system went down in 2016 on the final day to register to vote.
