McConnell Says Senate Would Acquit Trump if Impeachment Trial Held Today, ‘No Question – It Would Not Lead to a Removal’

Mitch McConnell

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told reporters on Tuesday that the Senate would acquit President Trump if an impeachment trial were held today.

The House of Representatives passed a sham impeachment resolution along party lines in a 232-196 vote last Thursday morning, however they have yet to vote on articles of impeachment.

McConnell criticized the House Democrats for denying Trump due process and said the president will not be removed from office.

“I will say I’m pretty sure how it’s likely to end,” McConnell told reporters. “If it were today I don’t think there’s any question — it would not lead to a removal. So the question is how long does the Senate want to take? How long do the presidential candidates want to be here on the floor of the Senate instead of in Iowa and New Hampshire?”

McConnell previously stated that he would work with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) if impeachment were to pass the House and head over to the Senate.

The Kentucky Senator on Tuesday reiterated that he would sit down with Schumer and have a conversation on how to handle the proceedings, but said he would most likely start by looking at the agreement between Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Trent Lott (R-MS), the former Senate leaders during Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial.

McConnell was asked about Senator Rand Paul’s calls to identify the whistleblower and refused to comment (we already know the CIA leaker is Eric Ciaramella).

“I’m not going to comment sort of on a routine daily basis on all that’s breaking surrounding this story over in the House,” McConnell said. “At some point it looks to me like they’re going to send it over to the Senate. As you all know that means we have to take it up.”

While McConnell appears to be backing Trump, three RINO Senators have not signed the resolution condemning the sham impeachment inquiry.

Senator Graham’s press office sent out a statement last Thursday saying that they would be introducing a “Graham-McConnell” resolution later that day that will condemn the House of Representatives “closed door, illegitimate impeachment inquiry.”

Surprise, surprise, three Trump-hating RINO Senators Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Mitt Romney AKA Pierre Delecto still have not signed the Lindsey Graham’s resolution to condemn the sham impeachment inquiry against President Trump.
