Democratic Socialist Ocasio-Cortez Shells Out $300+ For Fancy Hairdo: Report

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez preaches Democratic socialism. She doesn’t practice what she preaches, though (c’mon!).

AOC, a New York Democrat, reportedly dropped about $300 on a trip to a hair salon, The Washington Times reported.

The New York Democrat ventured into Last Tangle Salon on 19th Street Northwest last month and shelled out $80 for a haircut and $180 for lowlights, according to sources familiar with the salon.

A 20% tip would have added $52 to the bill.

Richard Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government, told the paper the optics were bad.

“There is nothing wrong with spending money to make yourself look better, especially as a personality who depends upon visual mediums for her make power,” he told The Times. “But it is a bad look to spend hundreds of dollars to get your hair done to make a video decrying income inequality.”

Ocasio-Cortez and her team did not respond to requests for an interview with the paper, but AOC did address the report on Twitter, blasting Vice President Mike Pence.

“Won’t you look at that: Mike Pence used *taxpayer funds* – not personal ones – to spend several thousand haircuts’ worth of public money on a visit to Trump golf courses,” she wrote. “I wonder if Republicans care about corruption as much as they care about a woman’s cut & color.”

Ocasio-Cortez, who represents a district comprised of parts of the Bronx and Queens, makes $174,000 a year.

Last year, Forbes magazine named her Navy Yard neighborhood one of the 12 coolest in the world, the Daily Mail reported.

It’s the fast growing area in the nation’s capitol and features the Nationals Ball Park; District Winery, the only winery in the city; beer gardens; posh restaurants and expensive workout studios like SolidCore and Pure Barre.

The Yards Park – situated on the banks of the Potomac River – contains a fountain, outdoor concerts, outdoor workout classes, restaurants, and speciality shops.

And the city is building a soccer stadium in the area.

The neighborhood also contains a Whole Foods, which is owned by Amazon, the company Ocasio-Cortez has railed against for its corporate practices.

But then again, Sen. Bernie Sanders, a fellow Democratic socialist, owns three houses, including a lakefront home in Vermont.

As comedian Colin Quinn says: “Never trust a socialist with a summer home.”
