“May Allah Ruin Him”, Rashida Tlaib’s Palestinian Grandmother Curses President Trump Over Canceled Visit Jibe

Rashida Tlaib’s 90-year-old Palestinian grandmother, Muftia Tlaib, cursed President Trump, saying in Arabic, “May Allah ruin him,” in response to his jibe that she was the only winner in the decision by her granddaughter to not visit her in the West Bank after a back and forth with Israel about whether the anti-Israel Democrat Rep. Rashid (MI) would be allowed by Israel to enter the country and also visit the Palestinian territories. Muftia Tlaib made the comments in an interview with Reuters.

After canceling a congressional delegation trip set for this weekend with the other Muslim female member of Congress, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), on the grounds the trip was intended to undermine Israel with support of the BDS movement, Israel invited Tlaib for a humanitarian visit to her grandmother which Tlaib initially accepted and then publicly refused.

Trump commented Friday night on Twitter, “Israel was very respectful & nice to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, allowing her permission to visit her “grandmother.” As soon as she was granted permission, she grandstanded & loudly proclaimed she would not visit Israel. Could this possibly have been a setup? Israel acted appropriately!”

“Rep. Tlaib wrote a letter to Israeli officials desperately wanting to visit her grandmother. Permission was quickly granted, whereupon Tlaib obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup. The only real winner here is Tlaib’s grandmother. She doesn’t have to see her now!”

For all the drama about Tlaib and how close she is to her grandmother, her uncle told Reuters Tlaib has not seen her grandmother since 2006.

Reuters video of the interview with Muftia Tlaib shows her speaking in Arabic and using the Islamic “Allah”, not “God” as Reuters translated, when cursing Trump.

Excerpt from Reuters print report:

Ninety-year-old Muftia Tlaib, sitting in her garden in the village of Beit Ur Al-Fauqa, was not impressed. “Trump tells me I should be happy Rashida is not coming,” she said. “May God ruin him.”

Her son, Rashida’s uncle Bassam Tlaib, said the women had not seen each other since 2006:

“She was going to slaughter a sheep when Rashida arrived and prepare her favorite food, stuffed vine leave.

“Rashida sees her granny as a second mother, she has always supported her. Rashida says she owes her success to her grandmother.”

…“Trump has told Rashida and Ilhan to go back to their home countries. What a contradiction, yesterday he asked them to leave and today he asks that they aren’t let in,” said Bassam Tlaib.

Still, the grandmother is hopeful: “My heart tells me that she will come.”

Tlaib’s tweets about her canceled visit from Friday, “My sity wanted to pick figs w/ me. I broke down reading this & worry every single day after I won for my family’s safety. My cousin was texting me which photo of @IlhanMN
& I they should put on a welcoming poster when I heard the news. I couldn’t tell her.”

“When I won, it gave the Palestinian people hope that someone will finally speak the truth about the inhumane conditions. I can’t allow the State of Israel to take away that light by humiliating me & use my love for my sity to bow down to their oppressive & racist policies.”

“Silencing me & treating me like a criminal is not what she wants for me. It would kill a piece of me. I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in–fighting against racism, oppression & injustice.”

Tlaib praised her mother for a previous interview in which she blew off mention of Trump, “My grandmother always keeps it real. “When asked about Donald Trump and his repeated attacks on her granddaughter, she brushed off the question. “I don’t know him,” she said. “I don’t care.””

Buried at the end of Tlaib’s statement is her real agenda where she calls for a “re-evaluation of our unwavering support for the State of Israel.”
