CRASH AND BURN: Kamala Harris Plunges In New Poll Of 2020 Democrats
Sen. Kamala Harris made a splash at the first Democratic debate when she attacked former vice president Joe Biden for being racist.
She soared up in the polls, but now she’s plummeting back down to earth.
A new CNN poll puts Harris at just 5%, down 12 percentage points from the liberal network’s last survey in June. Meanwhile, Biden — whose numbers fell after his first shaky debate performance — now stands at 29%, up 7 points from CNN’s previous poll.
That puts Biden 14 percentage points above Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont at 15%. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts came in at 14%. South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg was tied with Harris at 5%, according to the latest poll.
But another prominent poll showed some different results.
In the 2019 Cast Your Kernel presidential poll in Iowa — among the first states in which voters will cast ballots in the Democratic nomination battle — Biden held a far slimmer lead.
- Joe Biden: 8,143 (25%)
- Pete Buttigieg: 5,892 (18%)
- Elizabeth Warren: 5,064 (15%)
- Kamala Harris: 3,700 (11%)
- Bernie Sanders: 2,675 (8%)
Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas stood at just 3% in the latest CNN poll and pulled in just 2% in the Iowa survey.
