Rep. Ilhan Omar Reacts to ‘Send Her Back’ Chant, Says That it Proves Trump is ‘Racist’ and ‘Fascist’

Rep. Ilhan Omar responded to the chant of “Send Her Back” at Wednesday night’s Trump rally by saying that she believes he is a “racist” and a “fascist.”

When asked by CNN’s Manu Raju about the chant at the North Carolina campaign rally, Rep. Omar said “we have said this president is racist, we have condemned his racist remarks. I believe he is fascist.”

“I want to remind people that this is what this president and his supporters have torn our country that is supposed to be a country where we allow democratic debate and dissent to take place,” Rep. Omar added.

President Trump has disavowed the chant, saying he was “not happy with it.”

“I was not happy with it. I disagree with it,” Trump told to reporters at the White House on Thursday.

Trump said that he attempted to stop the chant by continuing his speech.

“They are always telling us how to run it, how to do this. You know what? If they don’t love it, tell them to leave it,” Trump said later in the speech.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said that he “felt a little bit badly” about the chant and would “certainly try” to prevent it from happening again at future rallies.

Rep. Omar had responded on Twitter on Wednesday evening, quoting Maya Angelou.

“You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise,” she tweeted.
