The Democrat-led House Oversight Committee voted 25-16 to authorize a subpoena for Kellyanne Conway over (non existent) Hatch Act violations.
And surprise, surprise, Trump-bashing GOP Rep. Justin Amash (MI) was the lone Republican to side with Dems to authorize the subpoena.
The White House blocked President Trump’s counselor from appearing before the Committee Wednesday, citing “longstanding precedent” of not allowing presidential advisors to testify before Congress.
House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) called the White House’s reason for blocking Kellyanne Conway’s testimony “baseless.”
“There are rarely issues that come before our committee that are so clear-cut, but this is one of them,” Chairman Elijah Cummings said in his opening remarks. “This is about right and wrong. This is about the core principle of our precious democracy, that nobody, not one person, nobody in this country is above the law.”
Democrat lawmakers no longer legislate. All they do is harass Trump and his associates and abuse their subpoena power.
A couple weeks ago the US Office of Special Counsel said in a report given to President Trump on Thursday that his counselor Kellyanne Conway has repeatedly violated the Hatch Act and recommended her removal from federal service.
The Hatch Act bars federal employees from engaging in political activity.
“The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) calls on President Donald J. Trump to remove Ms. Conway from her federal position immediately,” the agency wrote in a letter to the White House. “[K]ellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act on numerous occasions by disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media,” the letter stated.
President Trump previously defended Kellyanne Conway and said he will not remove her from her position as his counselor.
