CNN Bites On Trump Rape Claim After Sunday Shows Mostly Ignore — Accuser is Longtime Democrat Donor and Hillary Supporter

NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox on Sunday ignored new claims by a 76-year-old woman who says Donald Trump raped her 23 years ago.

But CNN jumped on the story on Monday, sitting down for a lengthy interview with the new accuser.

Carroll made the allegations for the first time in a New York magazine article, in which she said she has been sexually assaulted numerous times by, as she says, a “cavalcade of 21 assholes.”

When Carroll meets Donald Trump in Bergdorf Goodman, the encounter starts as a friendly one. Trump recognizes her as “that advice lady”; Carroll recognizes him as “that real-estate tycoon.” Trump tells Carroll that he’s there to buy a gift for “a girl,” and though we don’t learn the identity of this mystery woman, Carroll places the ensuing incident in late 1995 or early 1996, during which time Trump was married to Marla Maples. When Trump asks Carroll to advise him on what to buy, she agrees, and the two eventually make their way to the lingerie section. Trump suggests a lace bodysuit and encourages Carroll to try it on; she, deflecting, jokingly suggests that he try it on instead. After they reach the dressing rooms, events turn violent. In Carroll’s account, Trump shoves her against a wall inside a dressing room, pulls down her tights, and, “forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis halfway — or completely, I’m not certain — inside me.”

For more than 20 minutes, CNN host Alisyn Camerota was sympathetic, taking Carroll’s side — although the alleged victim offered no proof.

“You were engaging in this banter, as I think many of us would, because you didn’t know what violence was about to unfold and you could never have known that,” CAmerota said.

“How could I have known?” Carroll said.

“Of course,” said the CNN host.

So, who is she?

Carroll identifies herself as a “journalist,” just happens to have a new book coming out next month titled, “What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal.” The Washington Post also noted that Carroll is a registered Democrat who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. “She donated $1,000 this cycle to Emily’s List, which supports female candidates who back abortion rights, and $500 to President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012, according to campaign finance records. On Twitter, she has posted several sharp remarks about Trump and retweets of satirical and critical articles about him,” the Post wrote.

In her story, Carroll says Trump was highly aggressive.

“He just went at it. He pulled down my tights and it was a fight,” Carroll said on CNN. “I want women know that I did not stand there, I did not freeze, I was not paralyzed, which is a reaction could have had because it’s so shocking. No, I fought.”

“The minute he closed the door, I was banged up against that wall,” she said, adding that she hit her head “hard” on the wall. “The thing is it shocked me. For a moment I was stunned, and then he tried to kiss me,” she said. Carroll claims Trump then put his penis inside her, but she fought him off. “It was over very quickly. It was against my will, 100 percent, and I ran away, out.”

Trump has vehemently denied the new allegations. “It’s a total false accusation,” Trump said. “I don’t know anything about her. She’s made this charge against others, and you know, people have to be careful, because they are playing with very dangerous territory.”

Citing the treatment of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, accused of sexual assault 35 years ago, Trump said, “When you look at what happened to Justice Kavanaugh, and you look at what’s happening to others, you can’t do that for the sake of publicity.”

He added: “It’s a totally false accusation. I have absolutely no idea who she is. There’s some picture where we’re shaking hands. It looks like at some kind of event. I have my coat on. I have my wife standing next to me.”
