RINO Former Senator Jeff Flake Says He Would Prefer to Have a Dem Win in 2020 Over Trump
Former Senator Jeff Flake said that he would rather have a Democrat win the 2020 presidential election than have President Donald Trump win a second term.
Flake made the comments during a debate in New York hosted by Intelligence Squared, a non-profit that aims “to restore critical thinking, facts, reason, and civility to American public discourse.”
Flake was asked by moderator John Donvan if he wants President Trump to lose in 2020.
“Are you willing to lose a cycle for the Republican Party because of the principles that you’re arguing?” Donvan asked.
“Oh yes, yes,” Flake responded, citing Trump’s policies on issues such as immigration The Hill reports.
Flake claimed that while Trump’s base supports his platform, those things will hurt the Republican Party in the long run.
“It can galvanize people for a while, maybe for a cycle or two. But in the end, it turns people off. It turns off minorities. It turns off women,” he said.
When asked what he thinks the GOP should do if President Trump is the nominee for a second term, Flake said that “you sacrifice a generation.”
“Look at the long term. Look at the long term, at what you’re doing for the party, because people don’t want to be associated with it,” he said.
Flake added that he still believes another Republican could win in 2020 and that it does not need to be the president.
“We would certainly like it to be a Republican. And this notion — this narrative that’s been built up that Donald Trump is the only one that can cobble together the Electoral College and win is just a fallacy,” Flake said.
