The legal team for 16-year-old Covington Catholic student Nicholas Sandmann has released a video with an update about their $250 million lawsuit against the Washington Post and their $275 million lawsuit against CNN.
In the update, which is titled “Nick Sandmann vs Media Giants,” the lawyers assert that these companies “messed with the wrong kid” and urge people to share the video and the hashtag #ReformOurMedia.
The video blasts the media for spreading lies that will haunt the young man for the rest of his life — and further divided our nation.
“Both recklessly spread lies about a minor to advance their own financial and political agendas. Despite raw video debunking the false narrative, the Post and CNN doubled down on their reckless lies,” the narrator asserts before cutting back to footage of media talking heads trashing the student for “blaming the adults.”
The narrator goes on to ask, “how long will we allow these media giants to tear at the fabric of our lives to further their own agendas? Will they ever be held accountable?”
“Yes, they will,” the narrator states. “Nicholas Sandmann has taken a stand for himself and for you by filing major lawsuits against CNN and the Washington Post.”
The video warns that until these media giants are held accountable for their lack of journalistic integrity — no one’s reputation is safe.
Lin Wood, one of the attorneys representing Sandmann filed a $275 million defamation lawsuit against CNN on Tuesday.
The lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Kentucky, says that “between January 19 and January 25, 2019, CNN brought down the full force of its corporate power, influence, and wealth on Nicholas by falsely attacking, vilifying, and bullying him despite the fact that he was a minor child.”
It continues on to say that, “contrary to its “Facts First” public relations ploy, CNN ignored the facts and put its anti-Trump agenda first in waging a 7-day media campaign of false, vicious attacks against Nicholas, a young boy who was guilty of little more than wearing a souvenir Make America Great Again cap while on a high school field trip to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to attend the January 18 March for Life.”
The lawsuit also notes CNN’s “well-known and easily documented biased agenda against President Trump” and his supporters.
CNN’s vicious attack on Sandmann included at least four defamatory television broadcasts and nine defamatory online articles, the lawsuit notes. It documents instances in which the network lied and claimed that the students were“racis[t],” had a “mob mentality” and “looked like they were going to lynch” the Black Hebrew Israelites who were merely “preaching about the Bible nearby” “because they didn’t like the color of their skin” and “their religious views.” In reality, the black Israelites were harassing the students and screaming racial and homophobic slurs at them.
CNN had also claimed that the boys “surrounded” far-left activist Nathan Phillips, creating “a really dangerous situation” during which Nicholas “blocked [Phillips’] escape” when Phillips tried “to leave” the mob, causing him to “fear for his safety and the safety of those with him,” while Nicholas and his classmates “harassed and taunted” him. None of this was true, the valor-stealing activist had actually walked into the group to deliberately cause a confrontation with the students as they were doing school cheer chants to drown out the vile hatred being spewed at them.
Sandmann’s lawyers have also filed a $250 million lawsuit against the Washington Post — the exact amount that Jeff Bezos originally bought the newspaper for.
