It appears Senator Bernie Sanders’s crusade against the fossil fuel industry and his push to force everyone to ‘go green’ only applies to the lowlife proletariat.
Former Hillary Clinton staffers revealed to Politico that Bernie Sanders repeatedly demanded private jets for himself and his staffers during the 2016 campaign after he bowed out of the race and began stumping for Hillary.
Ex-Hillary staffers mocked the Vermont Senator as “his Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders” for burning through massive amounts of jet fuel on his private Gulfstream plane which cost about $100,000 in the last two months of the 2016 campaign.
“I’m not shocked that while thousands of volunteers braved the heat and cold to knock on doors until their fingers bled in a desperate effort to stop Donald Trump, his Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders would only deign to leave his plush D.C. office or his brand new second home on the lake if he was flown around on a cushy private jet like a billionaire master of the universe,” Zac Petkanas, who was the director of rapid response for the Clinton campaign told Politico.
“We would try to fight it as much as possible because of cost and availability of planes, but they would request [a jet] every time,” one of those sources said. “We would always try to push for commercial. … At the campaign, you’re constantly trying to save like 25 cents.”
Arianna Jones, a spokeswoman for Bernie Sanders argued that the Senator’s private flights were essential to keep up with the grueling schedule.
“That’s why chartered flights were used: to make sure Sen. Sanders could get to as many locations as quickly as possible in the effort to help the Democratic ticket defeat Donald Trump,” Jones said.
But Bernie didn’t only fly private during the campaign to help Hillary Clinton — apparently he continued to charter private jets in the two years following the campaign.
According to Politico, Sanders continued his frequent private jet travel, spending at least $342,000 on the flights in the last two years.
Bernie is your typical Socialist looking down from his Ivory Towers — he rails against the fossil fuel industry, screams about climate change and income inequality all the while living like a King.
Sanders recently announced his 2020 presidential bid — it will be interesting to see how he bobs and weaves when asked about his habit of flying private.
