“Empire” actor Jussie Smollett
According to a report by TMZ, “Empire” star Jussie Smollett, 35, was brutally beaten by 2 white men in ski masks at 2 AM in Chicago.
TMZ reported that according to sources directly connected to Smollett, he was walking to Subway to get something to eat at 2 AM when 2 white men wearing ski masks put his head in a noose, poured bleach on him and screamed, “This is MAGA country!”
According to TMZ, someone also yelled, “Aren’t you that fag*ot ‘Empire’ nig*er?”
Jussie Smollett then took himself to Northwestern Memorial where he was treated and discharged Tuesday morning, TMZ reported.
Many people immediately took to social media and comment forums online to express their skepticism in the original report by TMZ.
It is absolutely freezing in Chicago right now so Jussie Smollett was presumably wearing a beanie or a hat which would obscure his appearance.
Why on earth would two white Trump supporters be hanging around in subfreezing temps with rope and bleach and just happen to run into a celebrity and recognize him at 2 AM in the streets of Chicago?
The story is already starting to fall apart.
A spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department told The Daily Beast that not only are the attackers’ genders unknown, their faces and hands were covered and there is no report they shouted “This is MAGA country!”
Jussie Smollett did not identify the attackers to Chicago Police as white men.
A Chicago Police spokesperson told The Daily Beast that the attackers’ genders are unknown, and that their faces and hands had been covered. TMZ reported that the attackers shouted “This is MAGA country,” but police told the Beast, “There is no report of that being said.”
