The attacker is identified as Cherif Chekatt — an Islamist.

The attacker is a 29-year-old man who was booked by the police for common crimes. Apparently, the gendarmes went to his house last Tuesday morning to arrest him, but he was not there. His name is Cherif Chekatt. Born on February 4, 1989, the son of Abdelkrim and Rouag Raoudja.

According to Le Figaro, the suspect was identified as Chérif Chekatt and is 29 years old. The man, who was born in Strasbourg in 1989, was already known by the authorities for minor offenses, and was signaled by a possible radicalization.

This morning Chérif Chekatt was about to be detained by the authorities for a murder attempt, but he was not at his residence. In search of the house, the police found several grenades.

The shooter is still on the run.

Four people are dead and up to 11 more are injured, including in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on a Christmas market in Strasbourg, France.

French police said the Strasbourg shooting suspect is known to authorities, and on a terrorist watch list; suspect remains at large; everyone in the Neudorf area warned to stay indoors.

French prosecutors have opened a terror case into the shooting.

According to an eyewitness, there were gunshots and people were running everywhere for at least 10 minutes.
