Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is getting blasted by fellow Democrat Missouri State Rep Maria Chappelle-Nadal (14th District) for a radio ad McCaskill is running in which she is described as “not one of those crazy Democrats”.
Chappelle-Nadal and McCaskill crossed swords in 2017 when McCaskill called on Chappelle-Nadal to resign after she called for the assassination of President Trump.

Chappelle-Nadal is accusing McCaskill of airing a racist ‘dog whistle’ meant to appeal to white rural voters by implying black Democrats are crazy. Chappelle-Nadal also called McCaskill a “white nationalist.”
McCaskill is fighting a tight reelection bid against Republican Josh Hawley, the State Attorney General.
The ad features two white male sounding voices that spend most of the ad attacking Hawley. Toward the end, one man says, “Well, I don’t always agree with Claire McCaskill, but she works hard, fighting against those tariffs, doing all those town halls. And Claire’s not afraid to stand up against her own party.” and the other man rejoins, “Yep, and Claire’s not one of those crazy Democrats. She works right in the middle and finds compromise.”
The first man closes the ad saying, “Especially when it comes to protecting things here in Missouri.”

Chappelle-Nadal went after McCaskill in a tweet storm, “In races this close, you never want to piss on your base by calling them “crazy Democrats” in rural radio ads. And don’t be mad at those who are keeping you accountable.”
