Pres. Trump Orders ‘Limited in Scope’ FBI Investigation of Kavanaugh

President Trump ordered an extra FBI background investigation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Friday afternoon. Trump’s order comes after Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) made the request of Senate Republicans in exchange for his vote in favor of Kavanaugh’s nomination at a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting earlier Friday.

Flake’s request was supported by other undecided Republicans Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Sen. Susan Collins (ME), as well as two undecided Democrats Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (ND) and Sen. Joe Manchin (WV).

“Statement from President : “I’ve ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file. As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week.”

Trump spoke about Thursday’s hearing during a press spray in the Oval Office during a meeting with Pres Sebastián Piñera of Chile.
